Man on motorcycle dead after collision with SUV

A man has died after colliding on his motorcycle with an SUV Saturday night. The man, believed to be in his 40s, was heading westbound on 3300 South around 8:30 p.m. when he struck an SUV that had been headed the opposite direction, but was turning into the parking lot of a nearby apartment complex. The man was rushed to a nearby hospital with what has been described as "extremely critical" injuries, where he later died according to South Salt Lake Police. According to witness statements the man is believed to have been traveling above the speed limit, and police say he was not wearing a helmet when the crash occurred.

An accident reconstruction team was sent to the scene to see if they could discern just what happened leading up to the accident. No serious injuries were reported to have occurred to the driver of the SUV. The man's name has not yet been released.
