Congressman Jason Chaffetz will be stepping down from his role as a Utah congressman, effective June 30. Last month Chaffetz announced he would not be seeking reelection in 2018, saying he wished to spend more time with his family and that he wanted to return to being a private citizen. He has said that he had a "little bit of a midlife crisis" in March upon turning 50, which caused him to reevaluate the amount of time he was spending in DC and away from his family.
There have been rumors that Chaffetz has been offered a position with Fox News, and that he will be heading to the network upon exiting congress. While he admits he's begun talks with "certain organizations" in regards to a job, he is declining to name any and would discuss life after leaving congress closer to when it actually happens. He says he did not receive any job offers prior to his announcement, and made the decision to resign before looking for work.
Chaffetz's announcement is now triggering a special election in his district. That election will take place in November.
