Senate Intel Members Not Alarmed About NSA Phone Story

(Washington, DC)  --  Top members of the Senate Intelligence Committee are not alarmed about the National Security Agency's collection of information from Verizon phone calls.  Senators Dianne Feinstein and Saxby Chambliss call it a renewal of an ongoing national security practice.  Meantime, the Obama administration is defending the practice as a critical tool in protecting the U.S. from terrorism.

California Democrat Feinstein chairs the Senate Intelligence Committee.  Georgia's Chambliss is the top Republican on the panel.  The British "Guardian" reported the U.S. Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court granted the snooping order to the FBI on April 25th.  It allows the NSA's gathering of data including numbers called, call duration and location.  Contents of calls are not covered.  The order reportedly expires July 19th.
